MICHAEL DOHERTY Doherty earned his B.S. in Economics at Illinois State University and his M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Clemson University. He has served as a volunteer advisor to U.S.-funded rural development projects in Costa Rica, the West Bank, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador over the past 20 years. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Fiji in 1979-80. |
Mike Doherty has helped lead several charities and voluntary organizations'
programs in Illinois since 2006. He is the chair and co-founder of the
Children's Rights Council of Illinois and now sits on the Board of Directors for
the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative . Other organizations he has volunteered with
include the McLean County United Way, the Peoria Diocese Advisory Board for the
Widowed and Divorced, Professionals Assisting Latino Students, the STAR literacy
program, Dads Helping Dads, and Habitat For Humanity.
In his professional life, Mike is responsible for research and policy analysis
on a variety of economic and public policy issues for the Illinois Farm Bureau,
a statewide association. He manages and conducts economic research and helps
guide the association's policy development. Mike also provides analysis of
external research projects; governmental policies and regulations; proposed
legislation; and other factors affecting the profitability of agriculture and
the rural economy.
