TONY HUNTER

As Senior Vice President of Circulation and Operations, Hunter oversees the Chicago Tribune’s Circulation, Marketing and Production activities and is a member of the Senior Management Executive Committee. Current responsibilities include consumer/business marketing strategy, customer acquisition/retention, manufacturing and distribution. Hunter recently secured an unprecedented distribution agreement with the Sun Times News Group and is serving on the company-wide Transformative Change guiding coalition team.

Prior to his current position, Hunter was Vice President of Operations from 2003 to 2007 with responsibility for Printing Operations, Packaging Operations, Advertising Operations, Receiving/Inventory Control, Newsprint, Dock Operations, Financial Planning/Analysis, Facilities, Engineering, and Safety/Security.  He also served as the executive sponsor of three key company-wide initiatives to expand color printing capacity, improve targeting of preprinted advertising inserts and establish leadership expectations.   

Hunter previously held several distribution, logistics, technology and sales/marketing management positions in the Circulation and Consumer Marketing Department for Chicago Tribune. He served as Director of Circulation Operations and Group Sales with responsibility for strategic planning, decision support, financial reporting/analysis, technology/systems implementation, transportation fleet/labor, city single copy sales and group sales/marketing.

Additional posts with the Chicago Tribune include Director of Planning and Operations from August 1999 to September 2001; and Director of Consumer Sales and Service from December 1996 to August 1999, responsible for home delivery subscriber acquisition.  In this capacity, he managed the telemarketing, field and direct response sales channels, as well as the News in Education, customer service and planning and analysis divisions.

Hunter joined Chicago Tribune in 1994 as Manager of Circulation Planning and Analysis and in 1995 was named Manager of Consumer Delivery, responsible for the agent distribution network.  Prior to joining the Chicago Tribune, he worked for the Audit Bureau of Circulation from 1984 to 1994, serving as Director of Field Auditing-Newspapers.  He held a variety of auditing positions including manager, regional manager and field auditor.

A native of Calumet City, Illinois, Hunter holds an MBA in Leadership and Organizational Development from DePaul University and a BA in Accounting, Business Administration and Economics from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He is a CPA and President of the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative.  He and his wife Sue live in suburban Homer Glen, and have three children.
