WRENETHA A. JULION, PhD, MPH, RN

 Dr. Wrenetha Julion is a Registered Nurse, who has worked in the areas of women’s and children’s health and community health for her entire nursing career. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; dual Masters Degrees in Nursing and Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and her Doctorate in Nursing from Rush University.

 

Dr. Julion has been actively involved in nursing education for the past 10 years and currently serves as Assistant Professor  in the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health Nursing at Rush University College of Nursing. She has taught, mentored and advised both undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

In addition to her role as an educator, Dr. Julion is co-investigator on a research study that is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to examine parent participation in preventive parent training programs. She is co-author of the Chicago Parent Program; co-author of a chapter on parent training in the Handbook of Parent Training; and author of several scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, Dr. Julion has presented her research at numerous conferences and workshops to both professional and community audiences

Dr. Julion is the recent recipient of funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to continue her research with African American fathers.  Her prior research with African American non-resident fathers resulted in the development of a research questionnaire to measure father involvement. She is interested in learning more about factors that influence fathers’ involvement with their non-resident children and her ultimate goal is to develop and implement fatherhood programs to increase father involvement. 

Dr. Julion is a member of the Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood and is actively involved in several professional and community organizations. Dr. Julion is married with three children.
