WAYNE E. SNEED

Wayne Sneed was appointed as a board member to IFI in November, 2006.  As principal of Bradley West School, Wayne was very supportive of the IFI Fatherhood Essay contest.  His school earned a spot in the top 100 schools each year that they participated.

Wayne grew up in Blue Island, Illinois and graduated from D.D. Eisenhower High School.  After graduating from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa in 1968, he married his wife, Linda.  They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

After graduating from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa in 1968, Wayne began his teaching career at Churchill School in Homewood, Illinois, teaching 6th Grade.  In 1972, Wayne earned his masters degree in education from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois and began his first administrative position in 1974 as principal of Matteson Elementary School (Matteson, Illinois).  As of July 1, 2006 Wayne retired as principal of Bradley West School (Bradley, Illinois) with 38 years of service in education (12 years as a teacher and 26 years as an administrator).  He worked in the south suburbs of Homewood, Blue Island, Matteson, Peotone, Grant Park, and Bradley.

In addition to his teaching and administrative experience, Wayne has coached students in the areas of baseball, basketball, football, and bowling.  He is an avid bowler and has won several bowling championships throughout the years.  His greatest bowling accomplishment was in 1974 when he bowled a perfect 300 game.  In 2000, Wayne was inducted into the Kankakee Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Computers have always been an interest to Wayne.  He was one of the first teachers to begin using a computer in his classroom in the early 80’s.  As he became more proficient and took several computer classes, Wayne began creating and maintaining websites for the Bradley School District, the Kankakee Bowling Association, and his own personal website.  After becoming a volunteer board member for IFI, Wayne was asked to help out with the IFI website.  He is currently helping update the website.

Volunteering has always been part of his “free” time.  In the past, Wayne has been active in his church as a member of several different boards and Sunday school teacher, Chicago Tribune Education Advisory Board, volunteer for the Illinois Computer Educators (ICE), area director for the Kankakee Bowling Association, and is currently the Assistant Children’s Supervisor for the Tinley Park Men’s Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), in addition to IFI.

Professional organizations that Wayne has been a member are:
  • Illinois Principals Association,
  • National Elementary School Principals Association,
  • IKAN Administrators Association, and
  • Illinois Computing Educators.
